Course Description
Metadata is like drawing a map for a trip; it’s not necessarily the beginning or endpoint of a journey. It provides the context around each point of that particular trip for a given data element. Where Data Management can be seen as the entire journey, metadata is the context that allows the map to be drawn.
This course examines the core concepts of metadata as a foundational Data Management discipline, including: definitions, a practical understanding of metadata, different types and uses of metadata, where metadata sits within the entire data landscape, why it’s important, getting started, and more.
The “What is…?” series of data fundamentals courses, along with associated packaged Learning Plans, are meant to help data and non-data professionals build a common language and understanding between them on significant data-related topics such as Data Management, Data Governance, Data Stewardship, Data Modeling, Data Architecture, and many others.
These courses provide a means to develop a level of cooperative understanding between business users, executives, teams, and technical professionals across your organization, so that everyone can be on the same page as you move forward with your data programs and initiatives.
