Tutorial Description

Customers, Products, Services, Locations, and Employees comprise the critical Master Data of every business process providing the context for transactions, communications, and events. Poor Data Quality, misunderstood data, and deficient Data Management practices of Master Data have a direct impact on marketing, operations, analytics, and privacy compliance. Despite its high importance, many organizations struggle with launching, growing, or sustaining their Master Data Programs.

These challenges are especially true for organizations that have been through mergers or acquisitions. Even if the organization has a viable Master Data Management (MDM) program in place, it may not be attaining every possible benefit. An effective MDM Program requires a forward-looking blueprint and structure that ensures a long-term, sustainable, and extensible solution to achieve its objectives. For its continued success, the program must be positioned and ready to deal with resistance, continually proving its value, and delivering to tight target dates.

This tutorial will present proven approaches to managing and sustaining a Master Data Management Program from the presenter’s experience leading and launching several MDM programs across many industry sectors. Best practices and lessons learned from these programs will be referenced during the tutorial in addition to the following topics:

  • An Essential Perspective of Master Data
  • Master Data Governance: The Key Enabler
  • The Master Data Model: The Linchpin to the Blueprint
  • Transforming Governance into Executable Processes
  • Organizational, Government, and Industry Influencers
  • Assessing and Positioning MDM Technologies
  • Creating a Long-term Sustainable MDM Program
