
Dashboards are visual tools that tell stories through data and generate actionable insights that help an organization achieve its goals. However, building a dashboard does not guarantee its adoption. Roughly 25% of employees actively use BI/Analytics tools, and this number has not gone up much in the last 7-8 years, even though 50% of data and analytics leaders say BI/Analytics usage has increased by a lot.
There are many reasons why the adoption rate stays so low – Misaligned Metrics, Bad Visuals, Overwhelming Pages, Slow Changing data, Lack of Training, etc. A great dashboard requires strategic planning and design thinking. Knowing your audience helps you determine what KPIs/data you need; knowing what story you want to tell helps you identify which visualization type to use. An effective design helps you tell a compelling story and leads to better adoption.

Jhoanna Urena is currently the Business Intelligence Manager at Chobani, a food-focused wellness company. Jhoanna is responsible for generating insights by creating and managing Dashboards across the company. As the maker of America’s No. 1-selling Greek Yogurt brand, Chobani has since expanded its portfolio to include oat milks, ready-to-drink coffees, probiotic drinks, and dairy- and plant-based creamers, and data and analytics is a key driver for this growth. Jhoanna has more than 15 years of experience in Business Intelligence and data analytics helping organizations drive competitive advantage through actionable insights. Jhoanna earned her Bachelor’s degree from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in the Dominican Republic.
