Starting a data governance program from scratch or recycling a program that has failed can be a daunting task without the right tools. It’s like golfing with a broomstick. Having a good process (documentation) that supports your people through stewardship groups and promotes repeatable and scalable processes is key. During this presentation, you’ll learn how to balance establishing these three pillars concurrently, even though they are interdependent.
You will also hear a retrospective account of how a program was recycled after a false start and how the program had to engage a siloed, operationally divided Stewardship Community.
Speaker: Kari Albers

Kari’s early “career” was focused on balancing motherhood and being the sole provider for her son which also meant continuously putting herself in new situations to meet new friends after a solo move across the country. Always having to be confident in new and unfamiliar situations gave Kari the comfort and confidence to dive headfirst into data governance after fulfilling jobs as a Data Analyst. This life experience of being in charge of family decisions was good training on how to build data governance programs from the ground up. Kari thrives on building programs by surveying what has worked and what hasn’t and developing programs that fit the organization's landscape. Kari is currently the Director of Data Governance at General Dynamics Information Technology.
