Due to rapid growth and expansion that involved the acquisition of over 10 companies with varying ERP and customer systems in the manufacturing and electrical supply industry, Radwell was faced with a need to integrate disparate data systems to ensure business reporting and analytics continuity across the entire enterprise. With the understanding that full ERP migrations could take multiple years and cost millions of dollars, Radwell sought to take a cloud-first approach to integrated enterprise data that would allow seamless onboarding of data sources, metadata-driven ELT processes, strategic storage and retrieval, a foundation for MLOps maturity, and most importantly, creating a one-stop shop for all business users to access data. Within 9 months, the team stood up the platform, integrated all ERP systems, and successfully deployed its first AI model to support dynamic pricing. A data governance council was formed and the project has led the way in Radwell’s journey to becoming a data and technology-first manufacturing automation supplier. Success was the result of a great team, thoughtful executive-sponsored vision, and trying new approaches to old challenges.

The most noteworthy new approaches involved:

  • Metadata-driven ingestion framework to quickly populate the Azure Data Lake with ADF processes
  • Flexible cloud-architecture that focused on ML Ops and Databricks
  • A robust data services and API mart layer to expose consolidated data to over 75 internal applications
  • A design thinking session that launched the Data Governance Council
