Dr. Jason Dausman is a Medical Director of Clinical Informatics and Med/Peds Hospitalist for Mercy. He has spent the last few years evangelizing the importance of Data Governance at Mercy, sharing insights with senior leaders as well as expanding the cultural change to adopt a new Data Governance framework. He believes that data governance must ensure data are accurate, consistent, secure, and accessible for the right purposes, less about governing and more about enabling. Data governance has become an essential step in improving patient care, reducing costs, and enhancing innovation. Aligning data governance with an organization's strategic goals means that Clinical leadership and key stakeholders must be part of any governance activity.
This discussion will highlight some of the challenges and best practices in implementing Data Governance and mastering data at a large, complex health system, including the process of creating working groups and councils, establishing data quality metrics, increasing data literacy, and leveraging data analytics.
