DGIQ-W23: Who Gets the Soup? Prototyping Cross-Functional Data Governance

**This is Subscription-Only Content, It is NOT purchasable as a separate product**

Assigning stewards and responsibilities for our various data domains introduced us to information governance. This worked relatively well for defining metadata and authorizing access to data domains. There is a steward for vegetables, one for spices, one for proteins, and two for noodles. When we asked for their goods and put them in a pot to make something special, that’s when governance got interesting.

This presentation explores two projects to illustrate our approach to governance for integrated data solutions. The first project mixes student data with our financial management system. This could help us calculate the cost of a course and potentially the cost of an education.

The second project was more ambitious and glued together data from more than a dozen systems of record. This project opened doors to data privacy, data quality, and policy concerns.

This presentation covers what we tried, how we fared, and what we learned.
