DGIQ-W23: Putting the Ducks in a Row: Going from Low to High Quality Data

**This is Subscription-Only Content, It is NOT purchasable as a separate product**

This is the process of how Volvo Penta goes from low to high quality data. This presentation reveals how the Data Governance organisation drives the process of accomplishing useful and qualitative business data. In the case presented, the data records are cleaned up by correcting, validating, and supplementing the data. Not all the data is required to be cleansed but rather the data that is relevant, valuable, or critical to business operations. It is very demanding work which requires diligence, motivation, planning and rigorous execution. Having said this, it is extremely effective.

This work includes:

  • organizational tasks; funding, engaging the right business representatives, getting the know-how
  • automated tasks: using automation as far as possible in the cleaning process
  • manual tasks: some data still needs to be corrected or verified manually
  • reinforcing tasks: maintaining a high standard by continuous learning and constant awareness
  • preventive tasks: establishing a practice for business data design that reduces the risk where new data assets create new quality problems

Volvo Penta is the world-leading supplier of power solutions for marine and industrial applications. Since 2011, they have worked successfully with data governance and data management. Today, Volvo Penta stands out as an excellent Data Governance practice and meets top international standards.
