
Lost in Translation - Data Governance in State Government
Data governance is data governance, correct? Not really.
You can have all the ingredients for a cake, but how it turns out is going to depend on the quality of your ingredients, what order you put them in, and how many cooks you have in the kitchen.
Similarly, if you are NOT in the for-profit industry, your data governance may look significantly different than the one built for a Fortune 500 company. As a government agency serving the population of your state, your data governance program will depend on the main issues you are trying to tackle (data quality and sharing, anyone?), who is going to do it (IT and data people pointing at each other), and … the taxpayers’ money (I need a team of 10 to begin with).
In this session, we will dive into translating “What is out there on data governance” into “What works for a state government on a limited budget with a micro team.” The attendees will learn about:
Speaker: Diana Barrett

Diana is experienced with data management in the private, non-profit, and government sectors. She currently leads data governance efforts as Data Officer at a state government agency. Directing the development and implementation of a data governance model to support the strategy and policy needs across the agency, she is charged with overseeing and directing the agency-wide data activities related to the ownership, accessibility, security, quality, sharing, and use of agency data.
Diana has a legal background and is a Certified Data Management Professional.
