As a bank/financial service provider, Rabobank operates in a highly regulated industry. Data, and the ability to utilize data, are crucial for the bank. Rabobank created an approach on how to resolve current data challenges and how to grow towards a more data driven enterprise. Rabobank needs to stay in control of its data and to be compliant with relevant regulations (BCBS#239, GDPR). Data Management (incl. quality) is an area under regulatory scrutiny. For several years, supervisors are pushing banks to improve data quality. Next to regulatory there are also strategic challenges. Rabobank operates in a rapidly changing and digitalising environment. Availability of high-quality data and advanced analytics capabilities (A.I., Machine Learning etc) are essential to build tomorrow’s data-driven bank.

Gerard Koster has more than 20 years of experience in the Banking Industry. He is currently involved as a Technology and Data Risk Officer and sparring partner on these topics within Rabobank. Rabobank is a Dutch cooperative bank that operates in 38 countries for over 9,5 million customers, outside the Netherlands mostly in the field of food and agriculture. Prior to his current position he was Regional Head (VP) of Operational Risk Rabobank Asia (Hong Kong, Singapore, China, India and Indonesia). Gerard holds a Master in Finance & Control. He is also a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), all issued by ISACA. In his spare time he is a fanatic (marathon) runner.
