DGIQ-W23: Business Value Assessment to Identify Data Governance Priorities

**This is Subscription-Only Content, It is NOT purchasable as a separate product**

Organizational data awareness contributes to crafting an actionable data strategy embracing data governance policy management, implementation of policy control, and adoption of the right technologies to support these efforts. Yet data awareness cannot be mandated. It is an incremental process that begins with a baseline evaluation necessary for understanding the data landscape.

This baseline evaluation examines the business use cases for data and characterizes data utility within those contexts. In this talk, we discuss how a business value assessment of data helps to identify the different information management stakeholders within the organization, describe their roles and responsibilities, and map the way those roles interoperate within the organization. The approach of this assessment is to engage and interview the individuals taking on those roles to understand the business relevance of information – how information, reporting, and analysis inform corporate decisions, data assets recognized across the organization as adding value, business information use cases, and perceived gaps in information accessibility, provision, and utility.

Attendees will learn about:

  • Surfacing latent data management and data governance roles and describing their responsibilities.
  • Describing business information use cases and business processes that are driven by data.
  • Devising key business metrics that inform decision-making processes.
  • Using metrics to evaluate decision-making processes that benefit from improved governance.
