
To be successful, data governance needs to be an embedded part of business-as-usual wherever data is created, transformed, and used. As data becomes easier to create through cloud applications and self-service data marketplaces, data governance experts need to adapt to an agile new environment or risk losing sight of data across the organization.
By implementing dynamic data governance, the Department of Education has implemented basic data governance training across the whole organization to help business owners of data take an active part in documenting the data they collect and use. These users are supported by a team of data governance professionals who assist with content review and sign-off. This method has meant that data governance has become truly distributed, with business areas more in control of their data, downstream users have increased trust in the quality of data, and the governance and security teams have higher trust in the security of assets across the department.
