In September 2025, the EU Data Act introduced a new approach to Data Ownership for sensor data. Manufacturers of sensor-equipped goods ranging from connected cars to healthcare devices trading in the EU market are now subject to data sharing obligations, demanding stronger Data Governance.

Related acts, such as the Data Governance Act and the Open Data Directive, are suggested to be consolidated into the Data Act under the legislator's "Digital Omnibus" proposal in a welcome attempt to simplify the organically grown regulatory landscape into two major acts: GDPR for personal data, and the Data Act for anything else.

This session will give an overview of the various Acts regulating data for businesses active in the EU Single Market, and the obligations and inspiration Data Governance initiatives can draw from them.
