It is a well-recognized fact that effective data management must involve efficient data governance. However, this essential aspect is often overlooked in most organizations' data management efforts. This may be due to its association with human elements that technical individuals are not generally comfortable with, the diverse languages spoken by stakeholders from various disciplines, or even misleading expectations regarding data governance, etc. Avoiding the establishment of robust data governance has repercussions that gradually but inevitably have a negative impact on businesses. The absence or inadequacy of data governance leads to issues such as poor data quality, diminished trust in analytical outcomes, and the presence of outdated or stagnant data. This presentation aims to take the audience through the journey of formalizing data governance for the Office of Inspector General within the US Office of Personnel Management.
