With Fidelity Investments’ booming B2B retirement business, appropriate access oversight progressed from a ‘nice to have’ to an essential requirement. To ensure internal policies as well as contractual requirements were complied with, Ray McCormack and Olivia Mounce designed and implemented an innovative new analytical solution which identifies individuals with inappropriate access to critical data sets based on the roles held in accordance with their respective employment information (i.e. employment category and location).

Utilizing Microsoft’s Power BI and Automate as well as SharePoint, a cleverly designed one-click automation removes access whilst notifying respective managers. This helps to safeguard Fidelity’s managed data from insider threats, inadvertent use or sharing of data, as well as satisfying client’s requirements.

Such innovation was achieved using the following technologies:

• Microsoft Power BI to create a suite of analytical dashboards.
• Microsoft Power Automate for the automation of emails and calling appropriate APIs to revoke access.
• Logging records in SharePoint to avoid reoccurring automation.

Olivia Mounce has been with Fidelity for 13 years across a number of roles ranging from customer service to cybersecurity and is now a Principal Data Analyst within the Data Governance team. She is responsible for reducing data loss across the Workplace Investments organization within Fidelity Investments as well as providing access oversight across databases and applications that consume and use critical data sets.

He has gathered vast experience in leadership roles across multinational industry sectors such as Financial Services, Pharmaceutical, Telecommunications, Utilities, Education, Science and Broadcasting. He holds certifications in Cloud (Azure), Snowflake, Oracle and Kimball University Dimensional Modeling.

Ray has been with Fidelity Investments over 8 years and currently is Data Governance Technical Leader. He manages a team of developers who provide a variety of technical solutions ranging from AI, analytics, data pipelines, AWS development to supporting and enhancing our suite of Data Governance tools (Data Catalog, Data Governance Center, Data Lineage, Data Quality).
