
Learn how the University of North Carolina, Greensboro (UNCG) implemented a sustainable data governance model to re-engage campus stakeholders in decision-making and collaboration. Through a review of existing structures and processes, a new model was identified that clarified the necessary roles and responsibilities. This presentation will explore the journey of developing a new sustainable model for data governance. We will present practices and considerations for participants to take away. This will be an interactive session with participants answering poll questions and being engaged in a Q&A discussion.

Enterprise Data Governance Manager, UNC Greensboro

Alice Fleck currently serves as the Enterprise Data Governance Manager at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). She has over 21 years of experience in higher education and more than half of her career has involved data management and data analysis. Her focus has been on using data governance to ensure the availability of high-quality, relevant data for informed administrative decision-making. Recently, she collaborated with UNCG stakeholders and professional consultants to develop and operationalize an enterprise-level data governance program including the implementation of a technology solution for metadata management and data quality assurance. Alice holds a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from UNCG and recently received her Certified Data Management Professionals - Associate (CDMP) certification from Dataversity.net.

Senior Consultant, BerryDunn

Chase Goode is a senior consultant in BerryDunn’s Information Technology and Management Group (MITG) with a focus on higher education. Chase has experience working with colleges and universities across the United States to improve IT structures and processes, select and implement enterprise systems, and develop IT strategic plans. Recently, he has assisted the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) in creating an enterprise-level data governance program. The data governance program at UNCG includes a defined framework with dedicated roles and responsibilities, policies and procedures to manage institutional data assets, and a roadmap for implementing sustainable data governance initiatives. Chase holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Global Studies from Colby College, a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and is a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM).
