Data Governance has traditionally focused on Stewardship, Change Management, Data Quality, and Data Security. However, with the current explosion of legislation on Consumer Privacy and increasing awareness of Consumer Privacy rights, organizations must now include a robust Privacy lens in their competency as they enact Governance. Data Security and data privacy are not the same thing; Data Security is focused on Data Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability, while Privacy focuses more on Consumer consent, Appropriate Data use, Data Minimization, and Ethical AI.

His major competencies include Data Governance, Strategy development, Enterprise Information Management, Master Data Management, Business Intelligence and Analytics, Data Architecture, Metadata Management, Data Quality Management, Data Warehouse, Cloud Data Migrations, and Change Management (OCM). Kalu has helped several fortune 500 companies, including Coca-Cola, SunTrust bank, Edwards, Humana, Aflac, WestRock, and others to develop Data Strategy and Governance, establishing Data Governance organizations and operating models to manage data ownership, accountability, and decision rights to improve data process efficiencies and the quality of and value of data. Kalu holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Effectiveness (Leadership), an MBA, and a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
